On the development of cooperation between N. Nazarbayev Center for Development of Interfaith and Intercivilizational Dialogue with the UN Department of Global Communications

Today, July 16, on the ZOOM platform, in order to discuss the registration of N.Nazarbayev Center for Development of Interfaith and Intercivilizational Dialogue in the UN system, a working meeting of Chairman of the Management Board of N. Nazarbayev Center Bulat Sarsenbayev with the representative of the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) Felipe Keipo took place.

Opening the meeting, Chairman of the Management Board B. Sarsenbayev informed about the key goals and objectives of the Center in promoting the global initiatives of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N. Nazarbayev, the importance of popularizing the key ideas outlined in the framework of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions at the international level and also reported on that in 2020 N. Nazarbayev Center submitted an official application for the status of an associate member at the UN DHC, which was supported by the High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Angel Moratinos.

Chairman of the Management Board also stressed that since its inception, N. Nazarbayev Center for Development of Interfaith and Intercivilizational Dialogue has been successfully functioning for more than two years and accreditation in the UN system will increase the role of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will further allow Center to reach a qualitatively new level of cooperation with international partners.

In turn, the representative of the UN DHC, Felipe Keipo, said that the issue of registering Center in the UN system is under consideration, and also highly appreciated the activities of N.Nazarbayev Center in strengthening interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the world, expressing interest in further constructive cooperation with Center.

At the same time, during the meeting, Chairman of the Management Board B. Sarsenbayev acquainted the representatives of the UN Department of Global Communications with the priority areas of Center's activities and also shared plans for holding international events in Kazakhstan – on October 5-6, 2021 of XIX Secretariat of the Congress and VII Congress leaders of world and traditional religions in 2022.

At the end of the meeting, B. Sarsenbayev expressed hope for the approval of Center's application by the UN DHC in the near future, and the parties also agreed to return to the consideration of this issue in a month.
