Maulen Ashimbayev met with religious figures

Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and Head of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions Maulen Ashimbayev met with renowned religious figures.

In the course of the meetings, the Senate Speaker emphasized that there is a clear understanding in Kazakhstan that interethnic and interreligious tolerance, mutual understanding, and dialogue are instrumental in preserving social harmony in our country.

“Over 100 ethnic groups following 18 religions and confessions live and coexist peacefully in our country.  At the same time, interethnic peace and reconciliation, as well as mutual respect for other religious views, have become an integral part of Kazakhstan’s culture and mentality,” Maulen Ashimbayev said.  

In the talks with Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the parties noted the importance of the role of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and the Baku Forum of Religious Leaders in fostering ideas of inter-religious dialogue at a global scale. They also discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation between these two platforms.

During the meeting with Representative of the Anglican Church - Bishop of Dorking Jo Bailey Wells, Maulen Ashimbayev told of the ongoing work to expand the geography and confessional representation of the forum. The parties expressed confidence that the decisions adopted at the coming XIX Meeting of the Secretariat would take the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions to a new level.

The meetings were held as part of the XIX meeting of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions scheduled for tomorrow in Nur-Sultan city.
