On October 29 of this year, in Almaty, the Chairman of the Management Board of the N. Nazarbayev Center for the Development of Interfaith and Intercivilization Dialogue Bulat Sarsenbayev took part in an international scientific and practical conference on the topic: «Actual problems of improving legislation to counter extremism», organized by the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after M. Esbulatov.
Among the participants were also representatives of state bodies, non-governmental organizations, research institutes, higher educational institutions, including students, undergraduates, doctoral students, teaching staff of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the conference, experts noted that today destructive trends are transforming their activities with the help of new methods and approaches to spreading their ideology.
For 30 years of independence, Kazakhstan has been able to develop a unique model of interfaith relations, as well as its own approaches to countering extremism and terrorism. However, terrorism is still a pressing threat to the citizens of any country, which forces them to take new measures.
During the conference, Bulat Sarsenbayev stressed in his speech that today, in order to prevent extremism, it is necessary to constantly study the best international experience in combating radical ideology. «It is important to conduct a thorough analysis of the best legislative initiatives around the world and their adequate adaptation to the conditions of Kazakhstani realities. There is a need for further improvement of legislation in the field of countering extremism and terrorism. At the same time, it should always be borne in mind that Kazakhstan is a secular country, where there is freedom of speech, religion and the ideas of peaceful, tolerant coexistence of various faiths and religions are promoted»,- said the Chairman of the Management Board of the Center.
It was also noted that one of the sectional topics of the upcoming VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be devoted to the contribution of religious leaders and politicians to the promotion of global interreligious dialogue and peace, countering extremism, radicalism and terrorism, especially on religious grounds.
In general, the participants offered practical recommendations for further improving the legislation on countering extremism and terrorism.
