Today, May 31, on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression and Famine, the Chairman of the Board of N. Nazarbayev Center for the Development of Interfaith and Inter-civilization Dialogue Bulat Sarsenbayev together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Kazakhstan Andre Carstens laid flowers at the monument in memory of the victims of the Holodomor in Nur -Sultan.

On this date, personifying one of the most tragic pages in the history of Kazakhstan, Bulat Sarsenbayev and Andre Karstens honored the memory of the victims of political repression and famine with a minute of silence.

«The courage and patience of our ancestors made it possible to pass the hardest trials with dignity and unite into a single nation. Therefore, interethnic unity and harmony, the international authority of Kazakhstan are a reliable guarantee against the shocks of past events», - the Head of the Center emphasized.

It is worth noting that with the acquisition of Independence in Kazakhstan, measures have been taken at the state level to perpetuate the memory of the victims of political repressions of the XX century.

In 1997, by the Decree of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy N. Nazarbayev – May 31 was declared the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression. In order to complete the rehabilitation of victims of political repression, Head of the State K. Tokayev continues consistent work to restore historical justice in relation to all innocently injured Kazakhstanis.

Let us remind that the idea of establishing the «Wall of Sorrow» monumental complex belongs to Elbasy N. Nazarbayev.
