On November 25, 2020, the Committee for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with the Institute for Analysis of the Religious Situation and Religious Expertise held a seminar "Religious Expertise: Actual Problems in the Internet Space".
The purpose of the seminar is to improve the professional qualifications of specialists from local executive bodies, to discuss current problems and methods of expert examination for religious materials in the Internet space, and to form a platform for the exchange of experience between industry specialists. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Committee on Religious Affairs, the Information Committee, the Institute for Analysis of the Religious Situation and Religious Expertise, as well as specialists from local executive bodies and subordinate centers for the study of problems of religions.
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs Ye.B. Nukjezhanov stressed the need to reduce violations and strict observance of the law: “On the Internet, there are often materials aimed at inciting social, racial, national, inter-religious hatred, calling for religious radicalism and extremism. Therefore, we must join forces to prevent such violations. In particular, it is necessary to further increase the legal literacy of society in the religious sphere and improve this work, ”he said. During the seminar, representatives of the Departments for Religious Affairs of Atyrau and Kostanay regions, employees of the Institute for Analysis of the Religious Situation and Religious Expertise made a presentation.
Representatives of state bodies reported on the positive results of the measures taken to prevent violations. The seminar participants were given explanations on how to prevent the spread of negative religious materials in the Internet space, as well as on monitoring, sending objects for religious expertise, blocking resources, etc.
In general, in the course of an open dialogue, the participants exchanged views on the prevention and suppression of offenses related to religious materials on the Internet.
