On July 13-15, 2021, Washington (USA) hosted the International Summit of Religious Freedom, the main organizer of which was the US Commission on International Religious Freedom and co-chairman of the US Congress.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Nukezhanov.
During the summit, E. Nukezhanov noted that Kazakhstan pays special attention to maintaining interfaith harmony in the country and ensuring the rights of believers to freedom of religion, as well as developing partnership with the United States in this area.
On the sidelines of the Summit, E. Nukezhanov met with the organizers of the event, former Ambassador-at-Large of the US Department of State for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback and President of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice Katrina Lantos Sweet. Negotiations were also held with Director of the Department of International Religious Freedom of the State Department Daniel Nadel, and Deputy Chairman of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom Nuri Turkel.
In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Committee on Religious Affairs and the US non-governmental organization Love Your Neighbor Community. The memorandum will improve the dialogue between representatives of religious associations and the state in matters of the implementation of religious freedoms and the observance of fundamental human rights.
